We were all taught the Tower of Babel as a cautionary tale — humanity overreaching, hubris getting what it had coming. I never read it that way. When I look at Bruegel's tower, I don't see arrogance. I see nerve. Thousands of people, speaking different languages, trying to build one thing together, higher than anyone had ever gone. Humanity's first global project. Pretty much everything I do comes back to a single idea: building that tower again, this time with the right materials.

Because for the first time in history, the mortar is cheap. Bloom and his co-authors showed that ideas keep getting more expensive to find — but AI has dropped the cost of turning an idea into a product, and a product into a company, to almost nothing. Building is easy now. The hard part is scaling what you've built and actually getting it into people's hands. That's exactly where I sit: starting and growing a handful of companies at the same time.

What I believe is simple — technology is going to take us somewhere better. I love the boring, undeniable point Steven Pinker keeps making: poverty, disease, ignorance, all of it has been losing ground for centuries, because people never stopped solving problems. I'm not buying what the doom merchants are selling. I'm with Kevin Kelly's "protopia" — not utopia, just a world that's a little better today than it was yesterday. Every product we ship can be one of those little betters.

Here's the part most people forget: Babel actually ends with language scattering. The tower falls the moment people stop understanding each other. The way I see it, the work now is rebuilding that shared language — which is exactly why I'm a little obsessed with understanding the next generation. No technology that can't speak their language will ever carry their future.

Stewart Brand's line is still my compass: "We are as gods and might as well get good at it." Leverage runs through code these days; geography's just an excuse. What actually gets me out of bed isn't the companies I've started — it's seeing where the next stone goes, and pulling together the team to set it before anyone else even notices it's there.

Enough mythology. A little more literally as for the part about me; I'm interested in venture building, technology, LLMs, statistics, and especially the kind of mathematical modeling that helps companies scale in finance. I've been playing guitar and drums for almost ten years. When I need to express something I can't quite put into words, I paint. I care about art history, I'm three star diver and I love skiing whenever I get the chance.
